HELP US TO BREAK THE CHAIN OF POVERTY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Dear All,

These are exciting times that we had a number of exiting items to let you know about.

Well here we go! You may have gathered from various Church Newsletters that the structure of Just Traid has changed. I have asked Richard to explain what is taking place, and this he will do in the March newsletter.

To put your mind at rest, nothing has changed on a practical basis.  Our ethos continues to be the same, in fact with our increase in business, not only do our suppliers benefit, but so do our producers, which must be a good thing.

Richard has worked so hard and spent endless hours (and no doubt sleepless nights) pulling all the strings together. Add to this the work load with increased business, he has 'done us proud'.

Just Traid

Just Traid started approximately 10 years ago with the intention that members of all the Churches in Bury St Edmunds and District should work together to assist in alleviating poverty in developing countries by buying and selling Fair Traded goods.

Just Traid is a totally self financing organisation and with the generosity of some 170 volunteers a successful shop and café has been developed. Although based on Christian principals a number of volunteers have no church links but feel strongly  about the ideals of Fair Trade, and we are indebted to them for their services.

Kathleen Fleming the founder of this operation was so impressed with the Spurriergate Centre in York that she was determined to see a similar project in Bury St Edmunds, only through her hard work and determination has this project got off the ground.

We use a number of suppliers who must provide us with their fair trade charter before we deal with them. Any profits are given to nominated charities at the close of each financial year. Just Traid are working towards Bury St Edmunds becoming a Fair Trade town.

We attend a of number of major shows and events and can provide displays and talks at local venues if required to raise the profile of Fair Trade. We are always looking for new volunteers who could offer three hours a month to assist either in the café or shop
